Who We Are
WomenShine is a group of caring Albuquerque women who recognize the needs that exist in our community. We want to help, but our lives are busy, and the need feels so overwhelming it’s hard to know where to start. So we’re finally taking action in whatever small ways we can to make a difference.
And we’re doing it together.
What We Do
Starting in July 2025, we will meet once a month for a couple of hours to help a local nonprofit or meet a need in our community. We’re making it easy for busy, caring women to have an impact while enjoying some great “girl time.” In essence —
We’re making “doing good” doable. And we’re building our own supportive community in the process.
Why We Do It
Women are the change makers and nurturers of the world. Even the smallest action within the context of our busy lives can make a big difference. Our community, our city, our state, our nation, and our world need us.
If we don’t help, who will?
THIS APRIL, WE’RE GIVING HUGS TO PEOPLE IN ASSISTED LIVING… BY WAY OF STUFFED ANIMALS 🥰
This month, we’re bringing joy to residents at Morada Quintessence Assisted Living. I’ve been wanting to do something for our elderly neighbors, and I have some special inspiration. Both of my parents spent time in assisted living before they passed. I also had a grandmother who lived in a nursing home. As a kid, my family would go visit my Grandma Marie every Sunday. When my Dad, and then later, my Mom, were in a care facility, my brother saw them regularly (he lived nearby) and I visited them as often as possible (I live in NM, and they were in NC.) I always wondered about the residents who didn’t have many, or any, visitors.
When my Mom was in assisted living over Easter 2024, I couldn’t go visit for the holiday. I sent her a care package that included a big stuffed Peep. She named him “Bunny.” I told her that whenever she wanted a hug, to hug Bunny, and that would be a hug from me. Mom loved Bunny and hugged him a lot! After she passed in late 2024, I brought Bunny home with me. When I need a hug from my Mom now, I hug Bunny and it’s like I’m getting a hug from her. So for this month, let’s give a special hug to the folks at Morada Quintessence by providing a stuffed animal that they can love on any time they want. 🥰🥰
**There are almost 70 residents living there, and the activities director says they LOVE stuffed animals! If you (and your friends!) can donate a stuffed animal (or several!) to help us reach this ambitious goal, that will be amazing! We want every person there to receive one.
*Ideally, for the stuffed animals to be huggable, it will be great for them to be at least 8 inches in length. I found some decently priced options at Walmart (links below). But whatever you can provide will be so appreciated!

OUR MARCH MEETUP WAS FULL OF “PURSONALITY”!
We had all kinds of girly fun helping Pursonalities Plus! We collected a heap of new/gently used purses and items to fill them. Pursonalities Plus takes those bags, cleans them up, fills them with helpful goodies, and makes them fabulous! Then, they distribute them to organizations that help women in our city. We also got crafty - making inspirational beaded keychains to go along with the purses. It was a blast!
